Digger Construction LLC is a veteran and family owned excavation contractor based in the Black Hills and serving Rapid City and the surrounding communities. Owner and president Joel Williams built the company on a simple idea: the Black Hills deserves an excavation crew that is honest about pricing, clear about the plan, and respectful of the property and people it works for. Whether the job is a residential sewer line, a full septic system, a retaining wall on a steep lot, a snowed-in driveway, or a piece of raw land that needs clearing and grading, we treat it like it is our own.
Joel Williams leads every project personally, and customers notice. People describe him as competent, honest, and straightforward, the kind of contractor who explains your options, saves you money where he can, and does not take advantage of what you do not know about the work. When a family driving in from out of state got stranded on an icy hill, Joel did not just plow the road. He gave them a place to park, helped get their kids somewhere warm, and got them back on the road the next morning. That is the standard he holds his crew to.
Working ground in western South Dakota is its own challenge. The basin around Rapid City sits on heavy clay that shifts with every freeze and thaw, the higher hills hide granite and rock, and the terrain runs from flat prairie east of town to steep, forested slopes in the central Hills. We plan each job around the ground we are actually digging in, which is why our sewer lines drain right, our septic systems pass inspection, and our retaining walls stay put.
Because we self-perform our work instead of subcontracting it out, the crew that gives you the estimate is the crew that does the digging. That matters on projects with more than one moving part, which in the Black Hills is most of them. Clearing a lot, setting a septic system, and building a retaining wall to handle the slope can all happen as one coordinated job on one schedule, instead of three different contractors pointing fingers at each other. It also means we own the quality from the first cut to the final grade. When Joel tells you how a project will go, it is because he and his crew are the ones who will be standing in the hole making it happen, and that accountability is exactly what customers say they value most about working with us.
We serve Rapid City and communities across the Black Hills, including Hill City, Custer, Deadwood, Sturgis, Spearfish, Hot Springs, Black Hawk, Box Elder, Piedmont, and Summerset. If you are near any of these, we can help.
